World Cup sets new single-day attendance record
FIFA has announced a new single-day attendance record at the World Cup, according to a post published on the organization’s Instagram page on June 16.

The governing body said that 281,000 spectators attended World Cup matches across North America that day, marking the highest one-day attendance figure in the history of the tournament. The record was set on the sixth day of the competition, as several group-stage matches took place in different cities across the United States.
Among the fixtures played on June 16 were Argentina’s 3-0 victory over Algeria in Kansas City, Norway’s 4-1 win against Iraq in Foxborough, France’s 3-1 success over Senegal in East Rutherford, and Austria’s 3-1 victory over Jordan in Kansas City.
FIFA described the record attendance as proof that football continues to unite people around the world and thanked fans for bringing “color, atmosphere and emotion” to the tournament. Earlier, the organization reported that total attendance had already surpassed one million spectators during the first five days of the World Cup, from June 11 to June 15.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is the first edition of the tournament to feature 48 national teams. It is being hosted across three countries — the United States, Canada and Mexico — and will conclude on July 19.
